How updates reach you

There is nothing to download, host or keep up to date yourself. How an update arrives depends on what kind of release it is:

Minor updates - fixes and improvements that need no new permissions - install themselves. You do not have to do anything.
Major updates - releases that ask for a new permission - wait for a Confluence admin to approve them. Until someone approves, your site keeps running the version it already has, and the new features do not appear.

If XPress looks like it is missing something described on this page, you are most likely on an older major version. A Confluence admin can check in admin.atlassian.com → your site → Apps, where a pending release shows the app as Outdated with an option to review the new permissions and approve the update.

September 2026 - Start from the page

Update to version 7 · installs itself

Open XPress from Apps and it now starts where you do: with the page you have in mind. There is nothing to approve - this update arrives on its own.

Features

Find a page, export it - the XPress page under Apps now opens with a search box and the pages edited most recently, each with its own Export button. Search checks the pages edited in the last few minutes too, so the one you have just written usually turns up straight away. One click, and the document comes out in the same template the page’s own Export to PDF uses. Details →
Your exports from every space, in one list - Your recent exports gathers the ten most recent documents you made, whichever space they came from, ready to download again. Only your own: a colleague’s exports stay in their space. Details →
Templates, help and support within reach - open the template designer, the documentation or support straight from the same page.
Whole spaces are still right there - the space picker and page tree sit below, under Export a whole space or page tree, for the bigger jobs.

Fixes

Large exports could end in an error even though your document had been made. XPress now waits for the finished document and hands it over.

Version 7 - Named export templates

August 2026 · current release · needs admin approval

The biggest change since launch. Export settings used to live and die with a single space. Now they are real, named objects you build once and reuse anywhere.

Features

Named export templates - save a full export configuration under a name, then pick it at export time instead of rebuilding the settings. Templates are site-wide, so a template means the same thing in every space. Details →
Template designer - a fullscreen visual editor for building a template, with a live preview of the page beside the controls, so you can see the document take shape as you build it.
Templates are shared site-wide - a template you save is available to everyone on your site straight away, and only you or a site admin can change or delete it.
Space default template - each space can nominate a default. One-click exports from the page byline and the ··· menu use it, so a whole space produces consistent documents without anyone opening the settings.
Off-template warning - change the settings for a single export and the settings panel flags that they no longer match the template, with Reset to template to put them back.
Your own logo, kept by us - upload your logo once and any template can put it on the cover. There is no public web address to arrange and no image host to keep alive, so nothing breaks the day somebody tidies up the file it used to point at.
More of your pictures arrive - diagrams drawn as SVG, along with GIF and WebP images, now come through into the document with everything else.
Export a whole space and get the whole space - a big, deeply nested page tree comes out complete, in the order it appears in Confluence, however many levels down it goes.
Your brand, set once - your logo, three brand colours and your own typefaces, defined for the whole site. Every template picks them up, so a rebrand is one afternoon rather than twenty edits. The font travels inside the document, so it reads the same on a machine that has never heard of it. Details →
A calmer template designer - the settings are grouped into sections you open one at a time, so the panel shows what you are working on instead of everything at once.
Set the size of your titles - each template chooses the size, weight and line height of its cover title, page titles and contents heading, with the preview following every change. Details →
A page can pick its own template - give a template the labels it is for, and a one-click export of a page carrying one of them uses it. No dialog, no picking. Details →
Numbered pictures - every attached picture captioned Figure 1, Figure 2, in order through the document, using its description text when it has one. What a paragraph needs before it can say “see Figure 3”. Details →
A contents page that reaches into the pages - list each page’s own headings under it, one or two levels deep, every entry a link. Pages only stays the default. Details →
Your document has a name - the exported PDF now carries a title, so a reader shows it in the window bar instead of a file name, and anywhere documents are catalogued it is indexed on. HTML exports get it as the browser tab. It is the cover’s title, or the first page when there is no cover.
A cover with nothing in its margins - no running header, no footer, no page number on the cover sheet. It carries its own title. Details →
Your header in your own typeface - the running header and footer now take your brand’s typeface and colours like the rest of the document. They used to be printed by the browser in a document your styling could not reach, and kept a plain system face whatever you set. Details →
Mirrored margins - for a document you print on both sides and bind. The wide margin stays on the bound edge and swaps sides every page, so the binding never eats a line of text - and the page number moves with it, to the outer edge. Details →
Numbered sections - turn it on and every exported page becomes a numbered section, with the headings inside it numbered beneath: 1. Release Notes, 1.1 Highlights, 2. Architecture. The kind of document people cite by number in a meeting. Details →
PDF bookmarks - every PDF now opens with a navigation pane. Each exported page is an entry, with its own headings nested beneath, so a two-hundred-page document is something you move around in rather than scroll through. Nothing to switch on.
File names in your own script - a document from a space called Ürün Yönetimi now downloads under that name instead of a transliteration of it. Applies to every script: Japanese, Cyrillic, Greek, accented Latin.
Headers that write themselves - put {title}, {space}, {date}, {page} or {pages} in a header, a footer, a watermark or a file name and XPress fills them in when the document is made. A shared template now dates and labels every document correctly without anyone typing it, and stays correct next quarter. Details →

Fixes and hardening

Only a space admin or a site admin can change a space’s default template. The default decides the cover, header, footer and watermark on every one-click export filed under that space, so it is no longer something any space member can change for everyone.
Fixed an image occasionally coming out as the wrong picture.
Export a page you have only just written. A page created moments earlier could come back as no exportable content was found, which read as though you had picked the wrong thing. You had not, and it now exports.
A branch buried deep in a page tree is no longer left out of a whole-space export.
Expired exports are now always removed on time.
Further hardening around export history and download checks.
Layout fixes in the export panel and in HTML exports.

Version 6 - Private delivery, retention and licensing

August 2026

Features

Exports are delivered privately - finished files stay private to XPress and are downloaded from there, instead of being written into your Confluence as page attachments. Exports no longer clutter your pages or inherit page-level sharing.
30-day retention - every export is deleted 30 days after it is created.
Export from anywhere - a global XPress page with a space picker, so you can start an export without navigating to the space first.
A clear, immediate message when a selection is too big for a single PDF, with what to do about it.

Security

An export can only be downloaded by someone who can read every page inside it.
Limits on how many exports one account can start in quick succession, and on how much one export can take on.

July 2026 - HTML export and true-to-Confluence styling

Features

HTML export alongside PDF - one web document you can open in any browser.
True-to-Confluence styling - panels, tables, status lozenges, layouts and macros come out looking the way they do on the page, instead of being approximated.
Watermark - a diagonal text overlay with control over position, opacity, rotation and size.
Blog post export - blog posts export the same way pages do.
Export from the page itself - entry points on the page byline and in the ··· menu, so a single page is one click away. Details →
Emoji and status colours render correctly rather than falling back to grey icons.

June 2026 - Faster, more reliable large exports

Large exports became noticeably more reliable and stopped timing out, and the XPress interface was refreshed.

April 2026 - Paid Marketplace listing

XPress became a paid app with Atlassian Marketplace licensing.
Collapsible export settings sidebar - the full PDF configuration surface, out of the way until you need it.

March 2026 - The app becomes XPress

Renamed to XPress.
Export history per space, showing status, who ran the export, and re-download links. Details →
Include All - select a parent and pull in its entire branch of the page tree. Details →
Macros, images and attachments render inside the exported document.

October 2025 - January 2026 - First versions

The original content exporter: a browsable page tree, root and blog post discovery, and the first single-page and styled exports.

Known limits

These are current, deliberate limits rather than bugs:

One layout per export - a single paper size, orientation and set of headers, footers and margins applies to the whole document; you cannot mix them inside one file.
Page tree order - bulk exports follow the Confluence page hierarchy; there is no manual reordering.
One running header for the whole document - it is stamped by the printer, page by page, so it can carry the document’s title but not the title of the individual Confluence page a given sheet came from.
History is the last 20 exports per space, and every export is deleted after 30 days.
Page content keeps Confluence’s styling. Your brand’s colours and typefaces set the cover, the contents page and the page titles; the headings, tables and code blocks inside your pages render the way they do in Confluence.
External images embed less reliably than Confluence attachments. If an image matters, attach it to the page.
